Selwyn Wahine Cricket Club exists for one clear purpose - to provide girls and women of Selwyn, New Zealand the opportunity to play cricket.
We will always make "growing the game for wahine" our priority. In practical terms this means making sure we collaborate with other local clubs and teams to make sure every girl or woman has a place in a team playing at an appropriate level.
The only female cricket club in the area, Selwyn Wahine Cricket is built upon the success of poineering clubs who had female teams and players in the local cricket community. Selwyn region has produced several top-level players who have gone on to represent Canterbury and the national team. Our commitment to female cricket will ensure to continue that cricket legacy for years to come.
In 2021, a group of female cricket enthusiasts in the local community came together to form Selwyn Wahine Cricket. The founding members included Jenny Duncan, Tim Gruiters, Dan Manton, Bridgette Jennings, Grant Herd, Kerri Herd and Blair Templeton. Their love for the sport and their commitment to building a strong female cricket community in the area set the foundation for the club's success.
